DETAILS

Join this tour on the fringe of the Tongass, where old growth temperate rainforests meet the coastal landscape, for a land, sea, and food adventure!

Your tour provider has collaborated with Alaskan Food Producers from Girdwood, Sitka, Juneau, and Klawok to develop an exclusive tasting menu featuring delicious Alaska grown, harvested, and produced creations.

The journey begins as guests are transported “out the road” to a small, remote harbor far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Juneau.  As you hike through the Tongass National Rainforest, you’ll discover the abundant flora and fauna of the world’s second largest rainforest.

Prior to embarking on your voyage, your guide will teach basic kayaking and safety skills on shore.

You’ll launch double kayaks from the volcanic greenstone beach and paddle along the Pacific coastline – keep your eyes open for eagles soaring overhead, schools of salmon below the surface, and marine mammals surfacing for a breath of air.

After an invigorating kayaking and wildlife experience, you’ll return to land and sample Alaskan delicacies harvested from the sea and shore by local businesses and Alaskan families.  The rotating menu can include smoked salmon, locally grown greens, geoduck, Alaskan Birch syrup, kelp salsa, and Sitka Spruce Tips.

Warm your hands around the campfire or beachcomb – your time in camp is yours to enjoy before hiking back to civilization and van transport to downtown Juneau.

The menu includes dairy, fish, shellfish, gluten, and nuts.

  • INCLUDED: Professional guides and boat captain. Roundtrip van transportation. All necessary paddling equipment & tandem kayak. Forest Service permits. Rain gear (hooded jacket, rubber boots and pants). Gourmet lunch and beverages – Please note any dietary restrictions.

  • RESTRICTIONS: Minimum age 8 years old.  The kayaks can accommodate a maximum torso (waist-chest) diameter of 55 inches (140cm). Maximum weight limit is 600lbs (272kg) for double kayaks. People taller than 6’2″ (188cm) find operating the rudder challenging, as the pedals only adjust to a certain maximum distance; however, people as tall as 6’8″ have been able to paddle the kayaks.

Participants must be fit enough to kayak/hike 1-2 miles through the wilderness.

Participants must inform of all dietary issues or restrictions, whether that is food allergies or being gluten free etc… We can accommodate gluten-free and some vegetarian but do not advise this tour for anyone with severe food allergies.

  • CANCELLATION: Cancellation of excursion more than 14 days from date of the excursion will receive a full refund, 7-14 days receive 50% refund, and if the excursion is canceled less than 7 days from date of departure, no refund will be given.

  • WHAT TO WEAR: Due to the possibility of inclement weather, it is recommended that you wear warm, layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable slip-proof shoes.

  • MEETING INSTRUCTIONS: The “C” Sign, located near the cruise ship docks directly between Mt. Roberts Tramway and the green Taku Smokeries building, is the centralized downtown meeting location for all clients in the downtown area, including the majority of cruise ship passengers.
